Development progress and Combat System!


Combat Update!

The combat for the game has now been fully developed as a dynamic system. This means that new enemies with unique moves and stats can be made on a whim and operate cleanly within the turn based combat structure. The player has its own set of mechanics they can use within the battle, with current options being:

  • Attack function - this is the main damaging ability the player can use and recieve upgrades for, deals direct damage to the enemy.
  • Defend - halves damage about to be recieved during the enemies next turn, useful for powerful moves that need charging up before hand.
  • Magic - magic system has now started development with a few spells already in place and fully functioning. Starting spell will be a simple heal spell, which requires 3 mana to cast and heals 5 health within a given turn. Magic has strong usage as it can be used in conjunction to an attack within the same turn!
  • Item - item system development has also started development. The player can currently hold up to 10 items that are found either after successful combat encounters or within the overworld for a range of functionality.

All combat UI is in place and functional, with the combat system directly impacting the "Overworld" upon return. Enemies that are defeated in turn based combat will stop showing up in the main game world, which is constantly saved and updated for easy loading back and forth between encounters.

Whats Next for Development?

The next part that needs focus is the item system, once that is in place and functional level design can then start taking place and the current systems can be expanded for more enemy variety, spells to cast, shops to visit and places to go!
